Operating System

An operating system (OS) is a software that manages computer hardware, software resources, and provides common services for computer programs. It serves as an intermediary between computer hardware and user applications. The operating system facilitates the execution of application programs, manages input/output operations, controls peripheral devices, and provides a platform for running other software.

Some well-known examples of operating systems include Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, Unix, Android, and iOS. These OSes differ in their user interfaces (UI), supported hardware platforms, and underlying functionality, but all serve the essential role of managing computer resources effectively.
